Ion displays, advanced display technology that uses ion beams or streams of ions to create images, have many compelling properties. It uses ion beams to create tiny holes in the display and cleverly presents images by controlling the position and intensity of the ion beams. These tiny holes can produce clear images by emitting or reflecting light. A typical ion display usually includes the core parts of ion source, electron beam scanning system and screen.

First, let's talk about the ion source, which is one of the core components of the ion display. It is responsible for generating an ion beam or stream, which is achieved through multiple complex processes such as ionization, acceleration and focusing. Ion sources use a variety of different technologies, including cathode ray tubes (CRT), cold cathode ion sources (CCD), field emission ion sources (FEIS), etc. Each of these technologies has its own unique advantages and applicable scenarios.

Secondly, the role of the electron beam scanning system is to control the position and intensity of the ion beam. It forms an image by focusing the ion beam row by row or column by column to the corresponding position on the screen in a scanning manner. This scanning system usually consists of a horizontal scanning coil and a vertical scanning coil, and achieves precise scanning by controlling the size and direction of the current.

Finally, the screen is the part of the ion display used to display images. A typical screen consists of a glass or plastic substrate, a phosphor, and a cathode. When the ion beam hits the screen, the fluorescent material is excited, producing a glowing effect, thereby presenting a clear image. Different types of screen technologies include cathode ray tube (CRT), cold cathode luminescence (CCFL), organic light emitting diode (OLED), etc., each of which has different characteristics and application areas.

Ion displays have their own advantages and disadvantages. It has obvious advantages such as high contrast, high brightness and fast response time, which can present deep blacks and bright whites, as well as smooth image display, making images more realistic. However, its complex manufacturing process, limited viewing angle, high energy consumption and potential safety risks also need to be considered. Nonetheless, ion displays play a key role in a variety of fields, including industrial control, aerospace, and military applications. Its high performance and stability make it an indispensable technology in specific scenarios.
