Storage devices of electronic devices play a vital role in the context of the rapid development of information technology. Flash chip, as a kind of non-volatile storage device, has the advantages of high-speed reading and writing, low power consumption and small size, and has been widely used in various electronic devices. The classification of Flash chips and their functions will be introduced in detail below.

The role of Flash chip
Flash chips use EEPROM technology to store and read data, and have the following main functions:

1. Data storage: Flash chips are used to store various data types such as operating systems, applications, and multimedia files. Its non-volatile nature ensures data integrity in the event of a power outage, making it the storage medium of choice for electronic devices.

2. Bootloading: Due to the fast reading speed of the Flash chip, it is often used as a bootloading device to quickly start computers or other electronic devices, thus improving the system startup speed.

3. Firmware update: The programmability of the Flash chip makes it possible to upgrade or repair the functionality of the device through firmware updates. Users can obtain the latest functional improvements and security patches by updating the firmware in the Flash chip to improve device performance and stability.

Classification of Flash chips
Flash chips can be divided into the following types according to their internal structures and working principles:

1. NOR Flash: The earliest widely adopted Flash chip has fast reading speed and is suitable for random access and code execution. But writing speed is slower.

2. NAND Flash: It is currently the most widely used Flash chip. It has the advantages of high storage density and low cost, and is very suitable for large-capacity data storage. Although its write speed is fast, its read speed is relatively slow.

3. SLC, MLC and TLC Flash: classified according to the number of digits accommodated in the storage unit. SLC Flash stores one bit per storage unit and has a long life but high cost. MLC Flash stores multiple bits per memory cell and has low cost but short lifespan. TLC Flash has high storage density but the shortest lifespan.

4. Hybrid Flash: A storage device that combines NOR Flash and NAND Flash, combining the advantages of both, achieving a balance between read and write speed and storage capacity.

5. Serial Flash: A Flash chip that transmits data through a serial interface. It has a small number of pins and low power consumption, and is suitable for scenarios with high volume and power consumption requirements.

6. Managed NAND Flash: A Flash chip that integrates controller functions and has built-in error detection and correction functions. It is used to simplify system design and software development and is often used in embedded systems.
